IKG PTU sponsored faculty development program

A five days Faculty development program entitled "Improvement in Teaching and Research skills: Need of the hour" was held out at Amar shaheed Baba Ajit Singh Jujhar Singh Memorial College of Pharmacy, Bela from 1 January to 5 January 2019. It was sponsored by I K Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. A total of 35 participants were registered for this FDP which were from ASBASJSM College of Pharmacy Bela, Sachdeva College of Pharmacy, Gharun, Chandigarh group of colleges, Landran and GHG Khalsa college of Pharmacy, Gurusar sadhar, Ludhiana. The participants were registered with a very genuine registration fee of 500/- and they were provided a diary, pen and college calendar along with lunch and two times tea.

On the first day of FDP (1 Jan 2019), inauguration of the program was done with lighting of lamp at sharp 10:00 am by Dr. Saranjit Singh, NIPER, Mohali. He shared his views on the role of Indian Pharmaceutical sector in global status and also told about latest technologies, high technology jobs and new developments & challenges of pharmacy field. Afternoon session was conducted by Brahma Kumari sisters and they taught the participants about stress management and formula for a happy life. On the first day stage was organized by Ms. Gurminder Kaur and all were welcomed by FDP convener Dr. Shailesh Sharma and Coordinator Dr. Sandeep Kumar.

On second day of FDP (2 Jan 2019), first speaker of morning session was Dr. Amit Agarwal from PGIMER, Chandigarh. He taught the participants about "How to do a Systematic Review and Meta Analysis". He also told that this review comes under "Original Research article" and it can become a topic for Master of Pharmacy projects. The next speaker of morning session was Dr. Inderbir Singh from Chitkara University, Rajpura. He shared his valuable knowledge on Intellectual Property Rights and its benefits with the participants. Afternoon session was a hand on training workshop on HPLC by Dr. Suraj Pal Verma from Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar. The participants were told about theoretical aspects of HPLC along with HPLC system operation. The session was ended with a cup of tea to all.

On third day of FDP (3 Jan. 2019), session was started with a scholarly lecture on the topic "Ideation to Natural Product Development with reference to Natural Products" by Dr. Suresh Thakur from Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research, Punjabi University, Patiala. He told about research on natural products and how to reach up to a product from a crude drug. The next session was a lecture on "Good teaching and research practices in Pharmacy profession" by Dr. Puneet Utreja, Associate Professor, GHG Khalsa College of Pharmacy, Gurusar Sadhar, Ludhiana. In afternoon session a knowledgeable lecture was delivered by Dr. Monika Gupta, HOD Pharmaceutical Chemistry, ASBASJSM College of Pharmacy, Bela on the topic "Paradigm Shifting advances in discovery of small drug molecules". She told about latest technology and techniques in Medicinal Chemistry field.

On fourth day of FDP (04 Jan. 2019), morning session was started with a meaningful talk of Dr. Rajeev Garg, Associate Professor, ASBASJSM College of Pharmacy, Bela on the topic "Pharmaceutical Product Development". He also talked about importance of Pre-formulation studies for development of a dosage form. Second lecture of morning session was delivered by Dr. Manish Goswami, Director, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chandigarh University. He shared his views on the topic "Modification and enhancement in Pedagogue functioning: understanding student's perspective, newer challenges and increasing opportunities". In the afternoon session, a workshop on Patent searching was conducted by Dr. Rahul Taneja, IPR expert of Haryana Government, Panchkula. He delivered an informative talk on Intellectual Property Rights along with training of patents searching via internet in computer laboratory.

The fifth day of FDP (05 Jan. 2019), was the last day and two renowned Pharmacy professionals were invited as chief guest for valedictory function Dr. A. K. Tiwari (Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research, Punjabi University, Patiala) and Dr. M. Arockia Babu (Principal, Chandigarh College of Pharmacy, Landran).

Dr. M. Arockia Babu delivered a talk on "Problem Based Learning" and taught the participants that first we should find out a question/problem and then with the help of group discussion define the answer. Dr. A. K. Tiwari shared his fruitful views on the topic "Improvement in teaching & research skills: in Pharmaceutical Sciences". He also suggested all to be creative and innovative always. Everyone has the power of innovation, but the only need to explore it.

After the speaker's talk and their felicitation, Dr. Sandeep Kumar, FDP Coordinator, concluded all five days of FDP in front of all guests. Then certificates were distributed to all participants and FDP convener Dr. Shailesh Sharma, felt gratitude to all participants and honorable guests with a vote of thanks.
