Degree College - B Pharmacy Practice

Bachelor of Pharmacy (Practice) abbreviated as B. Pharm (Practice) is a programme conducted as per the Pharmacy Council of India regulation 2014. The purpose of this programme is to provide an additional qualification to the Diploma registered pharmacists. The programme provides advanced specialization for the Diploma students in the areas of Clinical therapeutics/pharmacy practice and a graduate degree in these advanced areas and trains to work at similar status with other members of the healthcare team. It also provides an opportunity to undertake advanced research studies and qualifications in the areas.

Program Highlights

The important subjects that will be covered during B. Pharm (Practice) programme are: PATHOPHYSIOLOGY AND PHARMACOTHERAPEUTICS:
The subject discusses in detail the pathophysiology of the disease process at the cellular level and the molecular biology mechanism of action involved in it. It also focuses on the theraputies of the diseases using numerous drug combinations and the justification behind the combination and the mechanisom behind the drug regimens to be used at various stages. The subject increases the competence of the Pharmacy professional to have a useful interaction with the various members of the Clinical care team on possible intervention modifications

PHARMACY PRACTICE:
The subject discusses the clinical functions performed by a clinical pharmacy professional in a hospital or community pharmacy area, viz., identifying medication and prescription errors, drug monitoring, patient information, drug interactions, adverse event monitoring, audits, and medical record maintenance. Pharmacy practice is a vital function engaged in eliminating chances of errors in medication at all stages and ensuring the best therapeutic interventions.

APPLIED PHARMACEUTICS:
This subject is designed to impart fundamental knowledge of different dosage forms and pharmacokinetic changes in the body. It helps the student to understand the basic concepts regarding absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion.

SOCIAL PHARMACY:
The subject area develops expertise in the management of social disease management in communicable and noncommunicable diseases. This subject also provides various knowledge about patient care services to improve the patient’s health in society.

PHARMACEUTICAL JURISPRUDENCE:
This course describes the Pharmacy Act, Drugs and Cosmetics Act, Dangerous drugs act, Medicinal, and Toilet preparation act, DPCO, and Professional ethics.

ASSIGNMENTS:
Assignments are given and evaluated for all course subjects of the above areas, and carried out under the supervision of faculty members and Pharmacy professionals.

Duration of Course:

2 years divided into 4 semesters.

Eligibility:

1. A pass in Diploma course in Pharmacy from an institution approved by the Pharmacy Council of India under section 12 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948.
2. A registered pharmacist
3. A minimum of four years of pharmacy practice experience in a community or hospital pharmacy –
# A certificate from competent authority stating that the candidate is endorsed as registered pharmacist in the drug license of a pharmacy as proof of practice experience in case of community pharmacist
# A certificate from the Principal/Medical Superintendent/competent person of the Hospital/Health Unit stating that the candidate is working as a pharmacist will be accepted as proof of practice experience in case of hospital pharmacist
4. A 'No Objection Certificate' from the employer in prescribed format (Annexure -A)

30 seats

Fee structure:

40,000 per semester which includes Admission processing fee, Development fund, Student related fee, Other Institutional Charges, University related fee, Examination fee, Tuition fee, Internet Charges and General Insurance.

Permanently affiliated to IKG-PTU Jalandhar, Approved by Pharmacy council of India, New Delhi and All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi.
